Art. Literature. Music/Noise. People. Presence.
Constructing. Deconstructing.

My recent art endeavor is well summarized in this paragraph by the remarkable writer Thomas McGonigle:

"The Bulgarian Salon surprised me with its actual complexity. A long introduction to the ethereal fabric art hanging on nylon cord high over head... Then a reading by Michael Hyde... Then my three paragraphs from The Corpse Dream of N.Petkov...my reminding people that this might all please the old comrades back in Sofia as a pre 9 September celebration...an irony not lost on the older members of audience...the cheering on of Daniela Pondeva... Good Bulgarian food...two copies of Petkov autographed... Finally the startling conclusion as the fabric artist Liliya Sotirova ascended a ladder and systematically cut down her construction...the realization how temporary a moment such as this... Trusting it all to the memory of those who were here in Smithtown, NY."

My gratitude to event co-producer Daniela Pondeva, artist Daniela Kostova and curator Alan Lupiani is endless...................................! My deep respect to writers Michel Hyde and Thomas McGonigle.

"The aim of our studies is to prove that color is the most relative means of artistic expression, that we never really perceive what color is physically."(Josef Albers)

"Whether something 'has color' or not is as hard to define verbally as are such questions as, 'What is music?' or 'What is musical?" (Josef Albers)

                                                                                          never be literal
                                                                                          never open up
                                                                                          never mean what you say
                                                                                          never make a point

                                                                                          all that matters
                                                                                          seems to
                                                                                          not

Just about a week ago I had the honor to give a presentation about my work process and concepts along with showing artwork at the Bulgarian Consulate General, New York City. My gratitude goes to the charming and energetic Daniela Pondeva, who runs a cultural salon event at the consulate every month:!
...here are some quiet shots from before the event began:

i’m an ox
i  work hard
i’m color responsible
candy color
sugar       sugar       sugar        sugar       sugar      sugar

“lick         lick        lick        lick      it
lick it like a lollipop
oh yeah i  like that” *

more and more for them
none and none for us
none  is more        for        us
we want it blank
bitter
raw
real
we know beyond taste
we know beyond color
we’re so civilized
we know structure
solid base
we put it in our lives
and we feel safe
supreme
